A security specialist at Universidad de Santiago will be the only representative of Latin America in the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, which is made up of sixteen international experts on this matters.
Con el objetivo de dar cumplimiento a las metas suscritas por nuestra Casa de Estudios, en el marco del Acuerdo de Producción Limpia “Campus Sustentable”, el programa de Responsabilidad Social Universitaria (RSU) desarrolló el Primer Taller de Capacitación en esta materia, orientado a estudiantes, académicos y funcionarios.
In order to meet the goals set by Universidad de Santiago in the context of the “Sustainable Campus” Clean Production Agreement, the University Social Responsibility program developed the first training workshop on this matter, oriented to students, academics and administrative staff.
The initiative is one of the institutional actions to promote the knowledge on sustainability and to meet the goal of reducing the use of energy by 5% in the campus before March 2015, according to Santiago Peredo, RSU program’s alternate Director.

Professor Saúl Contreras, academic at the Department of Education, is developing the Fondecyt Project “Early Teacher Training for Science Education” that seeks to analyze the academic performance of 1,200 Teaching Training Program students across the country to contribute with an explanatory model on how future teachers internalize and implement their curricular teaching knowledge.
El Dr. Gonzalo Acuña fue elegido presidente de la representación chilena en la Sociedad de Inteligencia Computacional, que forma parte de la mayor asociación profesional técnica del mundo. Al mismo tiempo, el académico representa a nuestro país en la Sociedad de Inteligencia Computacional Latinoamericana.
Dr. Gonzalo Acuña was elected president of the Chilean representation at the Computational Intelligence Society, which is part of the world’s largest professional and technical association in this field. Also, professor Acuña became Chile’s representative at the Latin American Computational Intelligence Society.

In the context of a series of seminars ran by the Department of Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, Dr. Ricardo Salazar informed about the scope of the research on treating waters contaminated by textile and pharmaceutical industry effluents through electrochemical methods.
