International Research Led by Usach and Rutgers Seeks New Alzheimer’s Therapy

Usach and Rutgers University are jointly developing an initiative to explore new therapies for Alzheimer's disease.

The research will delve into the effects of natural bioactive compounds derived from the Andean Shilajit species, a black moss found in both the Andes and Himalayas.

The funds will facilitate a two-year collaborative research effort between Dr. Leonel Rojo and Dr. Diana Roopchand.

Brazil and Chile Strengthen Tech Ties: From Research to Industry

To advance scientific collaboration between Brazil and Chile, Dr. Robinson Cruz, Research Manager at Brazil’s Hercílio Randon Institute (IHR), visited the Electroceramic Materials Laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, led by Dr. Domingo Ruiz.

Researcher reveals advances in the treatment of gill pathology in salmon

The Gill Health International Conference is the place where academia, industry, technology and research laboratories come together to discuss gill health in salmon. Its purpose is to discuss the results and solutions, and to share knowledge and new practices that are generated in the country regarding the management of the most prevalent and important gill pathology in Atlantic salmon in Chile. This is known as Proliferative Gill Disease (PGD) and has been present in our territory since 2012.

Antarctic Science: Research team studies plant adaptation to climate change

Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future (SAEF) is an international, interdisciplinary research program funded by the Australian government that seeks to understand in depth the impact of climate change on the ecosystems of the White Continent.

As part of this initiative, researchers are deployed to Antarctica each year to study in the field the environmental changes occurring in the polar region and in particular to analyze how mosses are adapting to the new conditions caused by climate change, especially those related to the increase in temperatures and UV-B radiation.

Usach graduate is recognized by the OAS as one of the most outstanding scientists and innovators in America

The Science and Technology Awards Ceremony is an event of the Organization of American States (OAS) that honors outstanding scientists and innovators throughout the Americas. In 2024, seven scientists, researchers and innovators stood out for their pioneering work to improve lives in this part of the hemisphere.

One of them was Pablo Zamora, a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of the University of Santiago de Chile, who was recognized for being a “visionary in the field of biotechnology and sustainable agriculture”.
