A group of students and academics from Arturo Prat University conducted a research stay as part of the FOVI 240220 project, “Applications of Advanced Materials in Sustainable Renewable Energy and Innovations in Water Treatment: a collaboration between Arturo Prat University (UNAP), the University of Santiago de Chile (Usach), and the University of Saskatchewan (Canada).
“We intend to reinforce collaborative frameworks between three public institutions—Arturo Prat University, the University of Santiago, Chile, and the University of Saskatchewan,” noted Dr. Francisco Herrera, a Usach academic and project counterpart. “This will facilitate the discussion, planning, and design of future scientific and technological research, project applications, and joint publications.”
Activities at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry of Solids (LFES) of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology included a practical workshop for students. Participants gained experience in the synthesis and characterization of technologically applicable materials and had the opportunity to interact with university researchers.
The project group consists of professors and students from UNAP and Usach. The UNAP members are Dr. Juan Segovia (Chemical Engineer) and students Grisselle Gatica, Yerika Castillo (Environmental Engineering), Omar Martínez, and Brayan Guzmán (Metallurgical Civil Engineering). Representing Usach are Dr. Francisco Herrera, Samuel Manzo (Industrial Civil Engineer), and Angélica Gatica (University Technician in Physical Analysis).
The project’s next stage aims to significantly enhance international networking for both undergraduate and graduate students. Plans include facilitating a visit to the research group led by Dr. Jafar Soltan, Associate Dean of Research and Partnerships and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. A dedicated workshop at Arturo Prat University will also be organized.
