CECTA Moves Forward with Vitamin D-Supplemented Bread Project

The Center for Food Science and Technology Studies (CECTA) at the University of Santiago (USACH), a recognized leader in yeast production for the wine industry, is expanding its focus to the baking sector through a novel applied research initiative.

The Fondef IDeA R&D project, “Obtaining a strain of yeast that overproduces ergosterol for use in the production of bread supplemented with vitamin D,” is led by Dr. Eduardo Kessi-Pérez, a researcher at Cecta.

Minister Etcheverry highlights Usach's leadership in research and innovation to address national challenges

Usach was recently selected as one of the first beneficiaries of the Structural Research Fund for Universities (FIU), an initiative that seeks to strengthen the scientific and technological capabilities of higher education institutions in our country.

Academic from the Faculty of Administration and Economics publishes paper on loyalty in business tourism in prestigious journal

In a new milestone for academic production at the Faculty of Administration and Economics at the University of Santiago de Chile, Dr. Enrique Marinao-Artigas, director of the Master’s in Marketing and academic at the Department of Administration at FAE Usach, published an article in the prestigious scientific journal Review of Managerial Science (Q1 in the Management category of the SSCI index). The work, entitled Antecedents of business tourist loyalty: the moderating role of familiarity and emotional and cognitive experiences, was co-authored with Dr.

Usach researchers promote solutions and technologies for more sustainable development

During March, the Vice Rector’s Office for Research, Innovation and Creation (Vriic) joined in the commemoration of International Women’s Day, acknowledging the work of various researchers at the University of Santiago de Chile who lead in high economic, social and environmental impact development, which seek to contribute to our society and the evolution of industry. 

Its R&D projects have received support from Vriic's Directorate of Technology Management (DGT).

On March 12, the Directorate of Scientific and Technological Research (Dicyt) of the University of Santiago de Chile held the talk “Mobilizing knowledge for impact on public policy,” an event that featured the presentation and dissemination of the Proyecto Vincula innitiative to the academic community, a collaborative platform that seeks to connect researchers and researchers with legislators to develop public policies based on scientific evidence.

Mining, metallurgy and other related industries generate large volumes of wastewater every day during their productive activities. 

These liquids contain high concentrations of heavy metals and other contaminants, which can have harmful effects when they come into contact with soils, the environment, and health in communities near industrial zones.

University awarded 31 Fondecyt Regular 2025 projects

The Fondecyt Regular program, promoted by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), is one of the main sources of funding for research in Chile, allowing researchers to develop high-impact projects in various disciplines. In its 2025 call, Universidad de Santiago was awarded 31 projects in different areas of knowledge, ranking fourth nationally and third among public universities.
