The Vice-Rectorate for Research, Innovation and Creation (Vriic) successfully completed the series of workshops entitled “Open Access and Data: Complying with ANID and Dicyt Mandates,” developed during the first semester of 2025 by the Data, Statistics and Systems team.
This initiative aimed to enhance institutional capabilities in open access, encourage sound scientific data management practices, ensure transparency and dissemination of academic production, and aid in meeting mandates set by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) and the Directorate of Scientific and Technological Research (Dicyt).
The workshops focused on practical topics, including the application of Usach's Institutional Repositories (for Academic and Research Data), the implementation of open licenses, and the use of tools for creating data management plans. Participants also learned about the regulatory framework for open access mandates.
Participants received training on different publication routes (Green, Gold, and Diamond), ANID's specific obligations for funded projects, associated deadlines, legal exceptions, and the critical role of a Data Management Plan. Additionally, the workshops delved into the deep exploration of opening research data by adhering to FAIR principles. The team provided practical instruction on identifying, documenting, and depositing data within the Usach Research Data Repository, alongside guidance on open licenses, the imperative to protect personal data, and accessing institutional support services.
Rodrigo Orellana, head of the Data, Statistics, and Systems Unit at Vriic, praised this The second workshop series was deemed a key step toward bolstering the university's open access culture. He especially noted the benefit of direct dialogue with academic units, which allowed for adapting content to their unique requirements.
"This second cycle of workshops has addressed discipline-specific questions, fostering dialogue and sharing information to advance a culture of scientific openness. These activities also disseminate the new Open Access Policy and aim to promote more open and transparent research practices."
From her perspective, Tania Aldunate, Scientific Information Manager at Vriic, emphasized the educational and supportive nature of these training sessions. She highlighted the priority of providing clear and practical guidance to the academic community regarding the requirements and procedures necessary to comply with open access mandates:
"The workshops aim to inform about the obligations stemming from the Open Access Policy, the results that must be made available, the deadlines, and the platforms, as well as to publicize the support services offered by the Vice-Rector's Office to facilitate compliance," she stated.
